Sleeping By Candlelight - Poem by Lynzi Berner

I sleep
by candlelight
to try and keep
the monsters away

The fire
scares them
So hot and bright
all consuming and dangerous

So much like love

I lay awake
at night
watching the shadows
wondering
which one will come
to torment
my imagination
when the light
burns out

Darkness
snaking through
the light
teasing
my fears
nightmares
in the flesh

The candle
flickers
the shadows
laugh
and move closer

it wont be long now
