Slumber Poem by marie elizabeth vampirus

Slumber

Rating: 2.8

i yank and struggle with the covers
i toss and turn beneath the sheets
i fluff and punch my pillows
just to feel comfortable when i sleep

i force my eyes to close
i force them to block the vision of you in my mind
as they refuse to close
a longing for you i find

i count the stars outside my window
seeing them with a blank stare
wondering where you are tonight
and what if i was there

i listen to the cars roving about
and i cannot help but doubt
could you be looking for me at this dead hour
i hope your not drunk and still going out

i watch the streetlights glimmer
as calm as the midnight air
bewildered by its contrast
to the dark canvas of this nightly flair

this night, like any other night
i think of you and our fight
i wish we didnt have such pride
to keep on pursuing who is right

i breath in the sorrow and pain
as thoughts of long ago entered my mind
the causes of my bane
the things i underestimated as a game

why cant we just forgive and forget
to avoid further conflict and regret

i hope we would mend this stupid contradiction
this time, i wont accept justification

i need you to see me once more
i promise, i wont walk out the door

please listen to what i have to say
dont turn your back, dont leave this way

help me put the pieces back together
before the rot and dissapear in another stormy weather
