Something Special To Be Afraid Of - Poem by A.j. Binash

I know your fear
It injected into my blood stream
When you twitched
Inside the arch
Of my angled arm
…Like a rancid shot of heroin

We discussed nothing
But breathing patterns

I felt your thoughts
They established the fear in me.

I challenged it
While stuttering courage
"B…bu…but…I am not afraid to smile when they're around"

You rotated
And brought my angled arm
Into a straight pose

Using my forearm as a cushion
You drooled a puddle
Which dried
Into a crust

For a second
I thought of keeping it there
Something unique
I could take with me

But the fear
That DAMN fear
Forced me
To wipe it away
