Song: Partner In Crime Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: Partner In Crime

When we started, it was so simple,
It began as just a game.
A little role-playing, nimble;
How the symbols of great wealth are gained.
You were a pretty, young bag-girl,
I told you, you'd never do time.
You were holding my swag, girl,
'Cause you are my partner in crime.

You are this thinking man's vanguard.
You're more than mere fizz in my pop.
You are my mistress of high regard;
An artist of bold agitprop.

On Muscle Beach in Venice,
I was an apprentice thug.
To the made men, I paid the penance,
But played them fast with a shrug.
So both the old fossils got tribute,
As they skimmed off the grifters and pugs.
But they knew I could get quite demented,
I could just bug right out on drugs.

You pulled all of my strings, girl.
You gave me both reason and rhyme.
All of our hopes now take wing, girl,
'Cause you are my partner in crime.

But my schtick was a quiet menace:
I needed no overt display.
I excelled at rad paddle tennis;
I could beat all the old pros all day.
As gigolo with our beaver scam,
We hoaxed the marks so hard.
And a side job as standover man,
Got me a pinkerton card.

Got me a pinkerton card, girl.
That's better than one from a cop!
We've got our ticket to ride, girl.
We're on our way to the top.

If you can't 'make a killing' in war, girl,
If you can't fill your boots, you're a flop.
When we raided thelax naval store. girl,
We cleaned out the payroll and shop.

Got me a pinkerton card, girl.
And there's no-one out there to stop,
The rise and rise of my wicked girl,
From the east and the best of the crop.

When we started, it was a swindle,
But no-one was hurt just the same.
When I hung out my shingle,
All the fools and the dupes made a claim.
You pulled all of my strings, girl.
You ran the whole pantomime.
You set up the heist and the sting, girl,
'Cause you are my partner in crime.

You pulled all of my strings, girl.
Yet you could turn on a dime.
But whatever cruel fortune brings, girl,
You're still my partner in crime!

You pulled all of my strings, girl,
A puppet of gaslight and lime.
I guess it's just one of those things, girl.
You're still my partner in crime!

You pulled all of my strings, girl,
Your genius is cool and sublime.
But remember when justice begins, girl,
You're still my partner in crime!

You're still my partner in crime!
