Standing Up For Yourself - Poem by Melissa Furey

I put make up on to see a new me
Knowing deep down that no one is ugly
People say its easy to ignore what the bullies say
But those words still taunt me to do this day

I remember trying to keep the tears locked inside
Standing up to them is something i tried
I was like no one else
occasionally l was by myself
Happily reading a few books
Taking no notice of the strange looks
Standing up for yourself

I learned to stand up to them on my own
And soon i had the confidence and hadn't spent another week reading alone
If you stand up for what is right
The future will be happy and bright

Topic(s) of this poem: alone, beautiful, bullying
