Stoke The Fire - Poem by Peter Wilder

My life is a mirror
And it reflects my imperfection
And I have tried to tear apart my sense of being
By throwing stones in its direction

And having traveled for so far and for so long
Dissatisfaction for a friend
I feel compelled to take the hand of incompleteness
So it will be there ‘til the end

My anger is a furnace
A fire deep within my soul
And I will fuel it with the pain of disappointment
As long as I am in control

And having traveled for so far and for so long
Without compassion or concern
I’m not prepared to throw aside my resolution
Stoke the fire, let it burn!

Stoke the fire, stoke the fire
Burning bridges on horizons far behind me
Stoke the fire, stoke the fire
Only ashes of the past will ever find me.

My life is a theater
A thin façade and yet the audience are spellbound
A change of scene, the final act
And in the wings my fears prepare to take me hell bound

So stoke the fire, stoke the fire
Fan the flames and watch the embers rise
Stoke the fire, stoke the fire
Embrace the sting as smoke gets in your eyes

Stoke the fire, stoke the fire
All the fuel I need upon my back
Stoke the fire, stoke the fire
The path I choose, this one way track

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem/song is about the anger that I once thought i was in control of that I tried to harness in order to achieve my goals. I later found out that it was the anger that controlled me I had had allowed myself to harbour grudges and hatred in the belief that it made me stronger. In ow try to avoid such thoughts. They are destructive and eventually lead to lonely places.
