Stripping Back Each Layer Poem by james watkin

Stripping Back Each Layer

Stripping back each layer
Of a peak's nearness
More of the grotesque overhangs.
More blinding whiteness.

Before we took on flesh
Before it, a brute
Of reared Scafell Pike, the earth-world
How tame lurked! How mute!
