Summertime Poem by DaunaLee Martens

Summertime

the sun shining down on me,
the clouds watching over me;
a raindropp glistening on my cheek,
before it falls to the ground below

a frog croaking in the wood behind,
loudly singing, the girl next door;
a mouse darting beneath my feet,
till a cat comes
and chases it away.

smells like apples and lemons,
soon to evolve into pie and 'ade;
children playing in the sandbox out back,
teens draping themselves over chairs and the ground.

soft emerald grass squishing between my toes,
moist earth reaching my nostrils;
see the worm burrowing in the garden,
the garden dreshly tilled and smelling.

boys playing catch next door,
girls painting toenails pink;
mothers pulling freshly baked bread
from the oven,
fathers reading the newspaper
before driving boys to soccor.
