That Girl - Poem by Adam Brotzman

When I look into your eyes I weep
But they're psychological tears that seem to seep
Through a mental shield that's meant to keep
Heartbreaking thoughts that hold me from sleep
I know you have a guy now to keep you safe
That fact hurts like salt rubbed on a chafe
I know I need to let go and give up faith
I need to accept I'll never share a warm embrace
If only you knew just how I felt
To love the only girl who can melt
The ice surrounding my heart and smelt
My inner gold just to make the buckle for a belt
A belt then used to beat me, I guess it's what I deserve
For being who I am, just a bag of nerves
I had the chance to go ahead and reserve
My place in your heart, now I can only observe
It's not your fault yet again its all mine
I guess you could say right now I feel 'fine'
My confidence around you frayed like twine
I just want to have guts like others that come to mind
Now I probably seem even more needy
Now my persona has become even more weedy
Now I probably seem just plain greedy
Now I want you to know I wish I'd asked you to be my sweetie

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Please don't judge too harshly, I'm only 14 and I wrote it at about 1 AM. I know this isn't perfect but please tell me what you think. I wrote it after getting back in touch with the girl that I had a crush on in primary/junior/elementary school only to find out that not long before she had already found a boyfriend and yeah, I was pretty distraught to be honest but, the world still turns around I guess.

Love is a spiritual experience that affects us profoundly. You never picked up courage to go for what you wanted so much. I hope by now you've realized that LOVE UNEXPRESSED IS A CRIME AGAINST THE HEART. A lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned from the heart with good rhyme scheme. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON. (Report) Reply

Aw. At 14, you seem to already have a deep love ingrained in your heart for that girl. It was sweet. Keep it up. :) (Report) Reply

Good thoughts and sharing of emotions, Adam. Don't worry so much about the rhymes, let the thoughts be what they are without forcing.
    Keep writing!
