That Girl Poem by Allison McDowell

That Girl

She's not that girl with the very best clothes
she's not that girl that everyone knows
no, she's not that girl
she's not that girl
you'd think you want to be
she's not that girl you'd expect to see
no, she's not that girl
she's walking down the hallway
thinking it's a mistake
this isn't the place to be
no, this isn't the place to be

She's staring out her window
waiting for the sun to pass
she feels a teardropp trickle down her face
she's hoping it's her last
she wants to hold on but the worlds letting go
she wants everyone to know
she's not that girl that she used to be
she's not that girl; she's me

So she goes to school the very next day
with a smile on her face
hoping no one sees
herl puffy red eyes
she's been crying all night
she opens her mouth
but nothing comes out
she want's to speak up
but she doesn't know how
No, she doesn't know how
