The Cruel Mistress: Life - Poem by Waseem A Malla

I think of you as a cruel mistress,
Landed I'm in utter distress,
This insanity, no wine can bring,
This pain in my heart, no bee can sting,
Those who think of you as a pleasure,
And call you a heavenly treasure,
Have never had me in their sight,
Only pain you inflict, and no delight…

Poet's Notes about The Poem

The poet thinks of life as a cruel mistress, and justifies the reasons in a few lines of short verse. The rhyming pattern is 'aabb'. Hope readers will enjoy and comment.

You really captured so much of life in its true sense in this poem. While life is viewed as a sweet, lovely thing, which it can be, it can also be an unimaginably cruel spouse which one can not divorce and re-marry elsewhere. (Report) Reply

I enjoyed this poem. Many paint the picture that is life as something great and it is, but not all the time. Its refreshing to see someone point out the cruel side that life often has. Great write! (Report) Reply
