The Day The People Died Poem by Hermione Femalton

The Day The People Died

We watched the people living,
From our castle in the sky.
We watched the people laughing
And we watched the people sigh.

And you couldn't keep from crying,
Though you wanted to.
And I knew that I would break
If I even looked at you.

And the weight around my neck,
Was burning to the bone,
But I put away my tears
And I turned myself to stone.

Our memories were fading,
Like leaves on a tree.
And I'd never felt so tired,
But I knew you needed me.

You changed as time went by,
And it cut right through my heart.
In our castle in the sky,
I watched you fall apart.

I used to count the years,
But the years went by too slow.
From our castle in the sky;
We watched the people grow.

And when it fin'lly came,
You clung to me and cried,
And I knew we'd both remember,
The day the people died.

They came out of their houses,
And they crossed themselves in fear.
For though they couldn't see it;
They could sense the end was near.

And we watched as the sunset,
Burned across the sky,
It was beautiful and terrible,
The day the people died.
