The Elephant Forgot How To Trumpet - Poem by gordon nosworthy

come to the edge
red truck said to blue truck
no said blue truck
that’s too close to falling

come to the edge
red truck repeated deliberately
no said blue truck
it’s a long way down

come to the edge
red truck said unyieldingly
i’ll help you’ll fly
no said blue truck guardedly

come to the edge red truck demanded
blue truck submitted dutifully
teetered to the precarious verge
you’re sure blue truck asked

red truck’s bumper welcomed blue truck
blue truck lost balance
thinking as it fell
i knew i shouldn’t have listened
