The Entity - Poem by Joe Jackson

Sex is violence, violence is sex
these words seem to blend
but never connect.
Natural feelings, unatural meaning
her beauty is bleeding
while i'm standing erect.

No sex is pain, no sex is death
but together as one
the three can obsess.
Natural feelings, unatural meaning
her beauty's undone,
another wonderful evening.

I wonder whether we humans try to see more in the act of what is to all other species a natural and necessary part of survival. A whole raft of cultural baggage is tossed into the psyche, causing it to struggle with what it is supposed to mean rather than what it simply is. We must have far too much time and too many idle hands... But yes, sex has become an entity which lurks on shoulders and behind veils. Rgds, Ivan (Report) Reply
