The Girl In Mirror - Poem by Samantha Martin

The Girl in my mirror isn’t someone I want to see
She isn’t beautiful, kind, or caring
No the Girl I see is someone who is scared
Someone who is blind to the people and things around her
Though people say they love her and people say they care
Most of the time when she needs them most they are never there
When she is alone she seems to find the dark a place where she belongs
And everyday just gets darker
Instead of being afraid
Instead of wondering everyday
She wants to know why she is even alive
Why do I want to live she says
Why is it when she looks back all she sees is pain
And it is always dark and cold
When I look in the mirror I see that girl
That girl is me
Fearing for the world she sees

I see rather a lot of these poems, and thought here we go again; the helpless girl who has lost everything but you have really done something different with this. The realisation of self at the end is stunning. Well done for defying my prejudice about 'mirror' poems.

    Regards Daniel
