The Man On The Corner - Poem by Sarah Marie

For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten
son, that who so ever believes in him, shall not perish, but
have eternal life
-John 3: 16

I walk to school everyday
On the busy sidewalks of Manhattan
I never care what is around me
Except for the man at the corner

He always holds a book in one hand
And the other in the air
He talks very loudly
Like he is trying to get my attention

I always turn down the music I’m listening to
As I walk past him
I try to understand what he is saying
But it never happens

Something stopped me one day
To stay and listen
To hear what he says
It may be important

He talked about a man
His name was God
I didn’t realize
I listened to his words all day

I missed school
But it was worth it
Because since that day
I was different

I was safe
And I was loved
I was cared
And I never felt alone

I knew the man on the corner
Was a sign
If I never met him
I don’t know where I would be
