Delicate nostrils and a pair of lungs can only hold in
a precious smell for a short while,
it lives only on the one intake of breath and,
reluctantly, I have to let it go..............

    Oh my word, how I understand what you're conveying here. One can never recapture that smell and just as we try to the memory evades us, that unique smell, not the layered fragrance but the true smell that is fprever planted in our memory. Beautiful poem. HG: -) xx (Report) Reply

    Liz,
    I'm fond of these efforts to capture a primal remembrance of one loved and lost.
    I loved this. I tried as best I could to capture the same sense in my poem 'Olfactory Memory'.
