The Person Underneath - Poem by Jewel Datri

I feel like I’m being pulled in every such direction
No one asks if they can take, they just do
I’m giving and giving and giving
And no one is returning and no one can see my pain

I wear fake smiles
and happy faces
laugh fake laughs
while im crying inside
myself being torn apart from the inside not out
but staying in

Texting is the easiest form of communication
Easiest way to hide my pain
Fake smiley face here
Fake exclamation point there
A few “haha” ‘s every now and then

On the phone becomes a tad more difficult
This is when you have to disguise the voice
But just laugh when the time is right
Don’t go silent
And they’ll never know your failure

In person is the hardest
I guess that’s why I became an actress
You have to take in to account
Your voice
Your face
Your body language
Your amount of speech
But once you start learning it becomes easier over time

Sometimes I feel like
Screaming
Crying
Weeping
Dying
But then everyone would see my weakness
And the hole that I can feel and clearly see
In the pit of my chest.
