The Serpent Within - Poem by Heather Ashley

Watch the serpent rise within
You must pay close attention
Or you’ll miss the measured change
Pure good, pure evil
Which am I?
I’ll let you decide
What you have taught me,
You learned friend
Is to make way for contempt, hate, jealousy
To sit leisurely by
To watch it engulf me
To watch it devour my soul
As it has yours
To be passive
To be helpless
To let the serpent rise within

    I loved this poem!
Very intense and dark, just as I love it!
