The Subject Of Love Poem by Shannon Moyer

The Subject Of Love

The sting that used to fill your kiss pierces my lips no longer...
I hunger for your touch, and to give my touch to you; but my hands, I fear, their path is unclear, when they used to cover you. There is still a stillness in the air when you are wrapped up in my arms, but the moment fades as you roll away and you lose some of your charm. I still see the love in your eyes, but I see the rough times too, and they have changed us dear, so much I fear that I've grown apart from you. What is our love now, more than an old comfortable thing?   Its a sunny day while children play and we lounge on a back porch swing. Sunny days are wonderful in the early spring, but as summer sets and we fade to fall, what will winter bring?   In the cold snow storms yet to come, can we hold on to this thing?   Or maybe in the summer months I will find again that sting. To feel the warmth in every kiss and to hold eachother tight; Do you think that is enough to get through a winter night?  Because surely it is true that there will be nights of cold, but through all those I can only hope that I have you to hold...
As comfortable as comfort is, I want back that old sting;  because my dear, without it I fear we haven't got a thing.
