The Thanksgiving Turkey Poem by Bill Simmons

The Thanksgiving Turkey

Rating: 5.0

I was down at cousin Jeffery’s for Thanksgiving
Now I have heard some fables
But when I walked in I rubbed both my eyes
There was a live turkey sitting at the end of the table

Jeffery said We couldn’t catch him
That old turkey just sat and grinned
We tried for a whole week
Finally we just invited him in

It did seem quite odd on that Thanksgiving day
He sat and ate instead of on that plate
And that vegetarian dinner, I did feel thinner
What I remember most was his saying of grace

Thank the Lord for who you are
On this Thanksgiving day
You can smile and grin when you sit in
And it’s not you on that plate

Thank the Lord for real strong legs
So again you can out run
When Thanksgiving day it comes again
And it’s not you that is well done

Now we took a liking to that old turkey
And I know it’s the strangest of fables
But Turkey George, yes we named him
Sits at the end of our table.
