This Is My Story Poem by Hopeless Heart

This Is My Story

The scars on my wrist
Tell you a story.
This is a story
You may not want to hear,
This is a story
You’ve probably heard,
A million times
But this is my story.

I am a normal teenager,
I’m confused and lost
I lie, I sneak around
But I don’t break rules
How is this so?
You may ask.

No parent tells their child
Don’t be sad, ever.
No parent tells their child
They’ll deal with every problem
No parent tells their child
Not to listen to their heart and mind
So this is what I did.

I was sad
I dealt with it
I listened to the debate
Of my heart and mind
That’s when it happened
I dealt with it
Probably not the way you would have
But I did.

Look down at me
I don’t really care
If you want to know ‘why’?
Well that’s none of your business
That’s between my heart and mind
None of your business.

I’m a normal teenager
I tell the basics
Nothing more, nothing less
Then again I could have
Plainly said ‘I am me’
But I’m not that cruel

I had a problem
I dealt with it
It’s what I was taught
That is my story.
