This War - Poem by Sara Stowell

There are too many dead today
With more to come along the way
For reasons that remain a blur-
To reach an end we can't ensure.

Our soldiers freely sacrifice
For politicians throwing dice
Upon the field of battle where
The people there just do not care.

Wrong war, wrong place, wrong time so true,
It now is up to me and you
To speak out loud with clarity-
This war has been insanity.

With might and right we speak our mind
As one together we will find
A way to bring a close to war
That's ripped this country to its core.

The echoes of the Nam are clear,
No matter what you say or hear,
The outcome still remains the same,
Just like the Nam it brings us shame.

Each day this war continues on
The more it looks like Viet Nam,
To stay will guarantee one thing-
More body bags at home to bring.

I have a right to state this view
For I have served my country too
And I am getting sick inside
For soldiers hurt and dead with pride.

So make your case against my word
But we have seen and we have heard
This same old story once before
When forced to fight a losing war.

The people then just hit the street-
Demanded that we face defeat-
To stop the maiming and the death-
Oppose this war with your last breath.
