Time Alone - Poem by Nigel Koester

I never thought I’d be alone,
The times with you the best I’ve ever known.
I traced our love back to the start,
No wonder we never really grew apart.
We took our time, as we grew up.
The choice was ours, but it wasn’t enough.
We’re such a mess, can’t go on.
Will both be sorry when we hear this song.

I never forgot, rarely strayed.
Sixteen just held such better days.
Days when I felt so alive,
Couldn’t wait to gaze upon your eyes.
The world was ours, yours and mine.
But high school was over and we never tried.
I found it hard to accept it then,
I found myself alone again.

I never thought I’d be alone,
But the last six months my love has grown,
I’d give all I have to just to be your friend,
Laugh once more in your room again.

But all is lost, The hope is gone.
I remember the time we gazed upon the setting sun.
At west cliff, on the stairs.
It’s not your fault, I was unfair.

But I never forgot, rarely strayed.
Now tomorrow holds such better days,
Days when I can still feel alive,
Be a good friend, and an even better guy.
