Too Hard To Say - Poem by CDM Anderson

It's not right to just say what you gotta say at times..
Because when you do that, you don't realize
that that person may not feel the same,
So they disregard your true feelings and call you
Weird, or
It's hard to say that I love her,
But I do. I really do.
She disregarded my words, so it's just a vacuous
statement that holds no meaning to her.
There ain't no sunshine in our world.
The shine is supposed to come from both parties -
It sucks that the shine only comes from one side of the

I told her, 'I love you.'
And she said, 'Goodbye, Chris.'
She said it with such harmony.
Such joy.
Such grace, and
Such bliss.
But even then, the kiss -
was too dry.
'Goodbye, Lover.'
And that's all there was to it.
My response would've been vacuous, so I said zilch -
No bliss. No kiss.
'Goodbye, Lover.'
I told her that I loved her once again..
And her piercing eyes stared deep into the abyss,
But she never said it....
'Goodbye, Chris.'

Poet's Notes about The Poem

A tidbit of my past. This poem marks the beginning of my manhood and the realization that in life, you can't just say things to coax a person into happiness.
