True Patriotism Poem by Christian Biddle

True Patriotism

Oh red cofffin, mixed with white and blue.
How I love your stripes and stars,
And the canton of a youthful hue.

Oh red coffin, mixed with white and blue.
How I love the black granite stone,
And how it reflects the vernal moon.

Oh red coffin, mixed with white and blue.
How I love the heavy weight you bear,
And you don't care that inside it only bears gloom.

Oh! I'm looking for some answers!
Mr.President, can I get the truth? !
Bury that bald eagle in a casket,
'Cause I don't wanna die, I'm just a youth.

Old Glory, can burn for all I care.
Is that 'unpatriotic' to say?
It's just a flag that represents lies
And an unwanted hegemony.

I love my country, I really do.
But I can't just shut up, nor should you.
Make your voice clear and loud,
For liberty and freedom must have no bounds.
