Untitled Iii - Poem by Andy Brookes

idiosyncratic women
strong jawed
chew fat
in cold cloistered corners
sipping liquid through acid lips

coffee morning
inaptly titled,
as most drink tea,
Christians in gossiping mode

God's acerbic soldiers
routers of dirt
scrubbed cherubs
iron haired maidens
arranging alter flowers.

love thy neighbour
whilst sharpening knifes
on ecclesiastical grindstones

do gooders
who do no good

pillars of a crumbling
introverted church.
