Waste Away A Daydream - Poem by Jake Warren

Sitting alone as my heart pounds against my chest
Way too much is going on and I need a rest
I am so self centered but not an egotist
Trapped in my own hell and I can’t resist
I am wasting away a daydream
Wasting it in my head
A walking dream on which I lean
I am wasting away a daydream
Avoiding their glaring eyes
And hiding my face
Not listening to their lies
Feeling so out of place
My blood is spilling
And I want to taste
I am wasting away a daydream
Wasting it in my head
A walking dream on which to lean
I am wasting away a daydream
So let me dream for a little longer
I know it wont make me any stronger
But these moments away from reality
Are the moments that save me
So let me waste away a daydream
Waste it away
To escape the world that burns my heart
It’s a small price to pay
Let me waste it away
I’m wasting away a daydream
So brace yourself for the scream
Of when I come back to reality
And find that I’m still me
Waste it away
