We Can'T Fight, Cannot Run Anymore - Poem by Bryony Bratchell

This day is only the start
Long lost efforts of a long lost time
Fade and fade in your distant eyes
Believing is only half the battle

We must fight although in vain
Until light fails us and all is still
Plagued by bitter knowledge of tomorrow
And onwards in thought we shall ride

But you must know it as I know it too
That the light will return again
All hope will be lost as surely
As the sun will rise

And slowly the horizon will transform
Your face will flood with warm light
We had an eternity of preparation
But our pain shall be no less

We are powerless once more
It only emphasises the break between us
Sit back and watch it unfold
as the situation tears us apart

You will hold me close for one last time
Numbly you whisper, I do not want you to forget me
Oh how could I
How could I forget?

This day is only the start
Our paths are not destined to intertwine
No time to waste I say, each second claws at my heart
So I shall embrace it, my future without you
