We Will Always Love You - Poem by Cally A. Nixon

I saw him change,
Right before my eyes…
The happiness left,
And for the anger, there was no disguise.

His brother and Dad,
Left him high and dry…
The anger and despair,
Was too much for just one guy.

Now that it’s over,
He isn’t the same…
Dad used to play around,
Until the Depression came.

His face turned to stone,
His eyes to ice…
When we speak of our uncle,
His expression isn’t at all nice.

He tries so hard,
To be the old him…
He emerges when we’re having fun,
But when it’s over he turns to stone again.

We will always love him,
Even during the hard times…
We love you Dad,
Because it’s difficult to stop love when there’s more to find.
