What Are You Afraid Of? - Poem by Jennifer Keith

Just like in the careless days

Set in place the metal sways

Though slowly her gloom begins to thrive

The wanted pain and flow fails to arrive

Lifting the metal and taking in the sight

Chipped and defeated it showed

Her wrist remained flawless and bright

As despair seeps in as it glowed

Facing the mirror she stood like the dead

Craving for the release and pain of her red

Her glassy eyes lift to her reflection

It stood before her matching

Only it was looking a different direction

And its sick grin was catching

Revealing its arm with a flowing slit

Her rage and envy soon began to lit

Backing away its mouth stirred

To her dismay it was unheard
