What Do I Know….I’m Still Young - Poem by Salimah Nubee

What do I know….I’m still young

O Mama, do you still remember me today? ...
Today I can look into the mirror and see you…
I was still young, maybe two years old
Got love from my parents
Got love from people
You know! ! ! A child affection…
Got it all

I love my mama
I was still young, a little girl
Still innocent, they called it…
I thought life is about receiving toys, sweets and caress

What do I know at this age
I thought I would grow into a lady, then a woman…

What do I know at this age
I was very joyful, I wanted to see life
I think that life was never meant for me…
Did I make a mistake, tell me you people from this world
Tell me why can’t I be a girl
Was I wrong to love my life of little girl
I was only two, nothing yet to offer
Still I had lots of love in my heart for you
Believe me…

Mama, don’t cry today, I was tortured by strangers
They called it rape

What did I know at this age
I’m all alone without you
Is the world cruel to you as it is to me
I could not even see you for a last time;
Could not even get a chance to take my Barbie doll with me…

O Strangers of the devils, can you answer my questions? ...
Can’t a girl live also?
Had I been a boy, would you bring me back to my mum? ...

A very stark poem, tragic because it is true in the cruel world, but I pray not true for you. All the best. (Report) Reply
