What Do Leaders Eathink - Poem by Bhupen Thakker

Mozart playing
Roast meat, two vegetables, glass of red wine
Dinner with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull
His mother loved him for a minute
His final thoughts on dying
Blue cufflinks, which cufflinks, Blue cufflinks

Easy music playing
Roast meat, two vegetables, glass of white wine
Dinner with Bill Shorten
His mother-in-law loves him
His final thoughts on dying
Which trade-union in the sky

Baseball game on television
Fried chicken, French fries, a coke
Dinner with President Barack Obama
His mother loved him
His final thoughts on dying
Change, equality, justice

Roast Meat, two vegetables, a glass of whisky
Dinner with Prime Minister Winston Churchill
His nanny loved him
His final thoughts on dying
War, ties, cigars

The sound of breathing
Some almonds, grapes, olive oil, lemon juice
Lunch with Mahatma Gandhi
His mother loved him
He slept on the floor
His final thoughts on dying
Oh god, oh god, oh god

The sound of sunshine
Beaks tapping, branches moving, some grain
The sound of sunshine
Lunch with a white dove
Her mother loves her
Her final thoughts on dying
Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo, sshhh sugarjellycolourmagichahananahullaballoon n n n n

….I ask the white dove-is it your red dancing shoes or your warm orange smile? Is it your complete yellow awareness of yourself or is it that quiet walk we did in the deep green rainforest when you rescued that tiny pink injured bird. Is it your gentle light blue voice? Your clever purple mind? Your golden sincerity? Or is it that white lotus within you only I can see. And then there is love
