What Do You See Mama? - Poem by donna dumos

What do you see mama
When you look at me?
Do you see what I am
a little girl of three?
Hoping to grow
Hoping to know
All you can teach me
What i can be.

What do you see mama
when you look at me?
Do you see a young girl
a young girl of ten?
Running and skipping
on wings now and then?

What do you see mama
when you look at me?
Can you know my dreams have
been shattered?
The joys and excitement in my
life once, were what mattered
But now the memoris of the
unspeakable acts that occured
Do not leave me since I
was twelve
They crowd in and surround me,
from thoughts i don't want to delve

What do you see mama
when you look at me?
Do you see the hurt child
with pain so intense
It is hard to understand why,
to try to make sense.
Why did this happen
Would you have stopped it?
I don't really think so
I don't doubt it a bit

Children raising children
We were often alone
You were always working
Most often just gone.

What do you see mama
When you look at me?
Let me tell you.
A hurt little girl
Who needed your love
To hear those three words,
I am sorry, I vow
It happen to me
I don't know how to stop it
Try to bear with me.
We will survive thru it.
From one of your hurt little girls.....
