What Is Love? - Poem by Andre Gaston
Everyday I ask myself, “What is Love? ”
Is it like the connection that God has for us from the heavens above?
Or is it something people say because it becomes a habit?
To this day I still don’t know and my mind just can’t grab it.
I feel so lonely and everyday it gets worse.
Am I doing something wrong or am I just cursed?
Every time I find someone, I treat them with respect.
Dear Lord, am I that so unlucky or is this just a test?
I asked the Lord to help me, as I close my eyes and pray.
He says to me, “Be patient my child, don’t let your heart go astray”
“But What is Love? ” I asked the Lord, “Please help me understand.”
He said, “It’s the connection between two people, from a woman and a man.”
I said, “I still don’t understand, can you explain it a little more? ”
He said, “I can’t explain myself no further, but I can lead you to the door.”
“I have taken you this far and you have to believe in what I say.”
“Just take one step at a time and you will know when it’s your day.”
“I apologize dear God; I feel pain but cannot cry.”
He said, “Your tears are being saved for happiness and you’ll know when it’s the right time.”
I woke up in my bed and started to stare at the ceiling.
Still wondering, “What is Love? ” One day, I will find the true meaning.
