With Buildup In My Heart - Poem by Sumpter Carter

With buildup in my heart
Being released
I begin to feel drained

I pour my soul on the page
A powerful high it gives
This my addiction be
For writing poetry.

My skill improved somewhat
I return to the flowing words
Pretty sounds that have
no meaning at all.

For when my fellowmen
Are destined to death
I refuse to stand idle
Ignoring my purpose.

As long as there is breath
As long as I hold life
I will not forget
My purpose here.

To use the pen
As a sword
Cutting the hearts open
Telling the message of Light

A small group of men
Unknown to their heritage
Squanders time precious
Oblivious to name's meaning.

Foresight belongeth
Not to me
Cannot see
What my actions become.
