yaas meN jab kabhii aaNsuu niklaa
ek nayii aas kaa pahluu niklaa

(yaas : despair, despondency; aas : hope; pahluu : facet)

le uRii sabza-e-Khuudruu (?) ki mahek
phir terii yaad kaa pahluu niklaa

miiThii bolii meN papiihe bole
gungunaataa hu'aa jab tuu niklaa

(miiThii : sweet; papiihe : cuckoos)

aayiiN saavan kii andherii raateN
kahiiN taaraa, kahiiN jugnuu niklaa

(saavan : rainy season; taaraa : star)

naye mazmuun sujhaatii hai sabaa
kyaa idhar se vo mushk-buu niklaa

(mazmuun : topics; sabaa : morning breeze; mushk-buu : smelling like musk)

paaNv chhilne lagii jaltii hu'ii ret
dasht se jab ko'ii aahuu niklaa

(chhilna : to cause injury; dasht : forest, desert)

ka'ii din raat safar meN guzre
aaj to chaaNd lab-e-juu niklaa

(lab-e-juu : brink of the river)

taaq-e-maiKhaanaa meN chaahii thii amaaN
vo bhii teraa Kham-e-abruu niklaa

(taaq-e-maiKhaanaa : recess of a tavern; amaaN : protection; Kham-e-abruu : twists of eye-brows)

ahl-e-dil sair-e-chaman se bhii gaye
aks-e-gul saayaa-e-gesuu niklaa

(ahl-e-dil : people with heart; sair-e-chaman : visit to the garden; aks-e-gul : reflection of a flower; saayaa-e-gesuu : shadow of the tresses)

vaaqiyaa ye hai ke badnaam hu'e
baat itnii thii ke aaNsuu niklaa
