You Have 'My Mother's Eyes' - Poem by Kay Kang

Excuse me miss I notice a similar smile
my momma had
and I can’t remember
whether if it’s the eyes that matched or that
satin black hat she had
(chills still clutching like a child’s lullaby)
I remember those Mondays
mourning mornings
at Church Sundays and
somedays pass away by time’s sandpit and
somedays a decade delays a waste
I see such shadows swollen in your eyes
breaks my heart
shuts my heart
knowing I can’t love someone with
my mother’s eyes
