Your Bitter Absence - Poem by Abegail Chua
I was not yours, and you were not mine.
There was never an us.
But my heart grieves.
It is surely grieving at the loss of you.
I could not understand it,
But your smile drove me wild.
Your laugh infected me.
Your scent intoxicated me.
Your warmth set my heart on fire,
and your presence,
oh your sweet presence,
it made me feel alive.
But I was not yours, and you were not mine.
And there was never an us.
But your absence,
your bitter, bitter absence,
though I could not believe it,
it made me love you even more.
...so come back.
