Your Eyes Poem by Jeremy Nel

Your Eyes

Rating: 5.0

I look into your eyes
And see the spark of hope
I look into your eyes
And see the flight of uncertainty
Fleetingly lingering in your quiet gaze
When you look at me

Your grey eyes hold my stare
As you seek for confirmation
That I too do care.
The golden fleck in those grey pools
Flickering as they quietly gaze
Gently into mine.

Oh my sweetness
How can I be heartless
And not care
For someone as sweet as you?
How could I touch your gentle face
And not be stirred by its loving look?

Your demanding quest for explanations
And clarifications of my statements and assertions
Are so dear to me when you seek to understand
What it is that I did say.
And then, when I stroke your face
You grow quiet.

Your eyes plead for confirmation in mine
That I am real and am sincere
It pleads with me not to sow the seed of hurt
But to implant in you the seed of hope
And of joy at the mutual pleasure
Of finding a soul-mate.

Oh my sweetness
Could I then be so ruthless as to not comply?
How can I not care, not be gentle
When I touch your sweet face
With my lips and fingers, caressing, stroking
With tenderness coming from my heart.

I know not whence we go from here
Except to explore this unknown territory
Together as pilgrims in this holy land
Of gentle compassion and care.
But I seek it with joy, and with delight
With you here by my side.
