Your First School Day - Poem by Allen Brodell

Six years old you are
broadly you smile
with the innocence of a child
with a gap between the front teeth
dressed in a blue jersey
white shirt, grey trousers
shinning black shoes
complimenting your school uniform
hair gelled to perfection
in the fashion of the day

Your first school day
minutes away, anxious you are
eager to make new friends
to learn, to gain knowledge

Shaped you will be
during the long years ahead
the long walk to education
twelve long years of your life
you will be jailed to be educated
some days you will love
other days you will hate
it's a compulsory journey
to prepare you for adulthood

Trust in God always
He will look after you
He will see to your well being
be blessed
enjoy it all!
