Anniversary

Just once every year,
I split my mouth
From ear to ear

Laughing. I feel
Citric acid burning from
The cut orange peel

When white teeth shine
Yellow from my mouth,
Though my blood boils to brine

Washing my mouth in a wave
Crashing blue, sticking like
Glue. All I do is rave.

Rave, I rave, how I rave
With an adrenaline rush till the
Torpor drops me in a sandy cave.

I rub the genie's lamp,
Finding sugar pouring
On my plate. A cramp,

I cramp in my mouth where lies
The sweat that each
Dry eye tries

To well with tears
That will not come
For the audience that fears

Me. Throw tomatoes for
Roses, and give me moans
For applause. Or

Ride the white
Elephants into the hills
Of India tonight.

Stand before the train
On tracks that collide
With the road in the rain.

Ash, ash, ash
Smolders in my head
Where the crash

Never happens for me.
The click will never come,
So I sip my coffee fast.
