The Last Saturday In October

i awoke at 9: 15AM on the last saturday in october
feeling like the day was already underway and i'd missed it

the weather was nice, in a 'winter's coming' sort of way
so i spent 2 hours in the yard raking leaves that multiplied with each stroke of the rake

then i washed and waxed my car, the latter being my first time ever
tomorrow i will be sore and achy because i have the upper-body strength of an eggplant

i gave myself a fat lip on the trash can
and i got tangled up in a spider web. i still cannot find the spider.

i am wearing the same clothes i slept in last night
i forgot to take a shower and now that activity seems pointless.

i have been reading a good book and have two more patiently waiting.
and i am tired of every last song in my library

i had some tea and some of last year's applesauce
and tomorrow i should think about fixing the toilet

but tonight i will dig the splinter out of my hand
and i probably won't speak a word out loud before midnight

which is just as well, because my feet are cold and that makes me crabby
