Chao, an international poet and Bible philosopher, lectures British and American poetry and prose at Guangdong Foreign Studies University, China, where he holds his professorship. He served as a writer-in-residence or visiting scholar at the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, Edith Cowan University, the University of Westminster and the London School of Theology.
In 1996, he was awarded for his literary achievements as an Asian scholar and poet by the University of Melbourne. In 1997, he was anthologized as one of twenty contemporary Australian writers by the Cimarron Review, the noted American literary journal. And in 2000, thirty-six of his poems were listed into Australia Literature on the website of Australia Education Department.
