Chinese New Year's Eve In Hangzhou

Tonight, my evening walk
Takes me past shuttered stores
On desolate streets
Which yesterday teemed with people
Now, here and there, a straggler only
And in the distance
The constant din of fireworks
It's their New Year, not mine
Within, I feel
A strange mixture of loneliness and melancholy
Well up
No longer held at bay
By the hustle and bustle
Of the distracting crowds
Now off celebrating their New Year.

I See Few Cats

I see few cats
Here in Guangdong
What few I see
Walk warily
And don't respond
To my overtures
Slink around
Any motion
And they're off
In a flash
And you would be too
If you might
Be on the menu.
