    To assess Sarojini Naidu is to determine so many things, first of all she is a Bengali and to the Bengalis poetry is but second nature as she has got her sentimentality as a part of that emotional psyche and the other part being given to Dr.Naidu, as for love-marriage in stiff opposition, considering caste, class and the barriers of the then conservative times. The other thing is this that Mahatma Gandhi gave her the title of the Nightingale of India, but the same ceased to remain a poetess after. she joined politics and left writing. Though a song-bird, but her poetry often lapses into loose sentimentality rather than settling into dust to mark ground realities and bare facts. A reader and believer in Gray's unassessed talents and geniuses, unappreciated and overwhelming wild blooms and the unknown citizen of Auden, I cannot think of giving the title to anyone, why not be she? Many a talent goes waste before it is recognized. There should be someone to bring it to light.

Coromandel Fishers

Rise, brothers, rise; the wakening skies pray to the morning light,
The wind lies asleep in the arms of the dawn like a child that has cried all night.
Come, let us gather our nets from the shore and set our catamarans free,
To capture the leaping wealth of the tide, for we are the kings of the sea!

No longer delay, let us hasten away in the track of the sea gull's call,
The sea is our mother, the cloud is our brother, the waves are our comrades all.
What though we toss at the fall of the sun where the hand of the sea-god drives?
He who holds the storm by the ...

The Poet To Death

TARRY a while, O Death, I cannot die
While yet my sweet life burgeons with its spring;
Fair is my youth, and rich the echoing boughs
Where dhadikulas sing.

Tarry a while, O Death, I cannot die
With all my blossoming hopes unharvested,
My joys ungarnered, all my songs unsung,
