Hoyden Becomes A Swan

Snotty nose and pigtails
Kicking a ball with boys
Catapults and conkers
All those boyish toys

Holes in her dungarees
Mud all down her vest
The hoyden's still a duckling
Ugly Betty at best

A lanky, gangly tomboy
Totally uncoordinated
Messing about in trees
No thoughts of being dated

But gangly turns to willowy
Unco-ordination into grace
Freckles and pimples fall away
The beginning of a woman’s' face

Time can be a cruel companion
But it became a friend for one
This hoyden is no longer a duckling
She's become a beautiful ...
