Stephen Bishop publicly debuted in a well received reading at the now defunct Midnight Special Bookstore in Santa Monica, California. His 'Portrait' series written in the mid 1990s has given way to narrative poems largely written to woo younger women. This has been an abject failure and has resulted in at least one divorce. more »

Cosmonaut

The day breaks her awake from bird song dream
In cat stretch smiles life leaps in cold feet
Sirens of Slumber lure with lips of cream
Meet the sun to shine bright-eyed in fierce teeth

She jumps supersonic into pink sky
With a BOOM the air frigid 'gainst her skin
If not the stars then the moon at least try
The black of space grows silent with her grin

In orbit without air she morphs Fabergé
Above the Earth weightless a Starchild floats
Reborn as rocket to blast Milky Way
Leaving her home to explore vast cosmos

Last look the jewel O' beautiful ...
