Thomas J Marshall

And in the stillness of the evening, my mind
wanders in the distant past, to times long gone,
forgotten, days that will not come again.
Of sun, and laughter, joy in rapturous play,
exuberance of life, and health and being.
As evening draws to night, shades fast falling, the tone now,
more measured, steadfast in anticipation of what will be,
For length of days is short by Heaven's measure,
and in vain man seeks eternity on earth.
