It was a life or death leap.
His determined feet pound rhythmically behind my tail
Heart pounding, I scurry across the path.
The rush of his feet on the leaves nearly as fast as the beat of my catheart
Ahead, the wire fence only a few yards away - my lifeline.
I jump the last huddle, hanging on by the skin of my teeth,
The victory leap placed me on the fence, safe at last.
I hear a deep silence.
